Residents at Gilmerton Care Home in Edinburgh have been enjoying exciting days out in the local community thanks to our home’s ongoing partnership with Myley Tour Bus.

The partnership provides residents with safe and accessible transport, allowing them to take part in meaningful outings and experience some of our city’s most popular attractions. Recent trips have included visits to The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Deep Sea World, both of which were greatly enjoyed by residents.

These outings offer valuable opportunities for social interaction, helping residents connect with new people outside the home while creating new memories and experiences to share with friends, family and fellow residents. Trips to interesting places such as aquariums, museums and gardens also provide mental stimulation and a boost in mood, with many residents reminiscing about gardens they had cared for throughout their lives while admiring the beautiful floral displays.

The sensory experiences offered by the outings are particularly beneficial, especially for our residents living with dementia, from the sights and scents of the gardens to the fascinating lights and sounds of the aquarium. These unique experiences encourage learning, keep minds active and promote gentle movement, all while supporting overall wellbeing.
