Edinburgh Fringe Festival Is Coming to Gilmerton Care Home

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Gilmerton Care Home has been awarded a highly ought-after collaboration with the iconic Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Fringe Care Fest is an exciting programme that brings the spirit of the now 78-year-old local event directly into our care home, allowing residents to experience a taste of the festival they have lived alongside for decades.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a massive part of Edinburgh Culture, bringing our Scottish city into the spotlight as incredible acts from across the world come to perform. For many of our residents, it is usually impossible to attend these events due to limited mobility, or to avoid potentially stressful crowds. This year, however, the incredible art will be brought to our residents in the comfort of their own home, enabling them to experience this staple of our city. Staying connected to our culture through outings and events is extremely important to us here at Gilmerton Care Home, as it brings a stabilising sense of belonging and purpose, and strengthens those vital community bonds.

Fringe Care Fest is an initiative that began in 2022, and offers a variety of performances, including Broadway songs, modern dance, and tributes to iconic musicians like Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James. Residents, families and staff are looking forward to experiencing the vibrance of the Fringe; we’re already getting excited, reminiscing and exchanging stories of our favourite performances and parts of Edinburgh culture.

Over the coming weeks, we will be meeting with the Fringe Care Fest production team, and our residents will play an active role in choosing the shows they would like to see. The programme will run throughout August and will feature visits from two experienced artists: one street performer and one main-stage performer. Residents will be able to choose from a wide range of art forms, from drag to reggae, contact juggling to magic, performed by artists from across the globe. This is a truly exciting opportunity, and we are confident that residents and families alike will enjoy this very special experience.
